Cabling, Fibre and Ductwork
Where your connectivity requirements are long term and short distance (such as linking two offices in a business park, or connectivity within a city centre, it's often cost effective to own and operate "dark fibre". This is essentially a dedicated duct carrying fibre between two premises.
Cost of ownership versus rented connectivity can, depending on usage, produce payback periods between 1 month and 5 years - please contact us to discuss in more detail.
Specifications
aql® work with several engineering contractors to arrange wayleave and to excavate and install. Our services can range from fibre-only, to a fully installed, managed interconnect.
Costs
Typically, as a guide, a fibre dig will cost around £200 per linear metre, therefore a 100m dig is approximately £20K. Compare this with an annual leased line cost of £5k for a 100mb/s bearer and a 4 year payback is achievable.
Advantages
An inter-site fibre connection can be run at gigabit or 10 gigabit speeds as required. In those instances where this level of connectivity is required, the payback period can be as low as 6 months.
